Africa

55 fellow
Alyson Zureick |
At the
end of July, Alyson Zureick will be
leaving the Vance Center. Alyson
joined the Center a year ago as a
Princeton Project 55 Fellow, and
during this time she has become an
invaluable member of the staff. Alyson
has coordinated the South African
Visiting Lawyer Program; worked with
the African Affairs Committee and the
Vance Center's Global Pro Bono
Clearinghouse on gender-based violence
research; developed communications and
technical assistance materials for the
Center; and worked extensively with the
Vance Center Committee. Alyson has an
ability to distill the germ of an idea
and express it in a clear and
persuasive way. Likewise her engaging
personality and commitment to social
justice have done much to promote the
work of the Vance Center.
In
September Alyson will begin a one-year
Princeton in Africa fellowship with
the International Rescue Committee in
Sierra Leone. She will work with
program managers to monitor and
document program accomplishments for
donors and the media; write articles
and take photographs for the IRC blog
and annual report; and manage
information flow between country
headquarters in Freetown and the IRC's
field offices in eastern and southern
Sierra Leone. Although she promises to
write a blog from Sierra Leone on
public interest law and human rights
issues in West Africa for GNJI, it
won't be the same as having her here,
and we will miss her.
