The Vance Center welcomes the 2007-2008 South African Visiting Lawyer Fellows

On October 24th, the Vance Center welcomed its sixth group of South African visiting lawyers to New York. The four fellows are Emma Lecheko at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; Belinda Mapongwana at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Morgan Stanley; Dhineshree Pillay at Weil, Gotshal & Manges; and Brian Price at Sullivan & Cromwell.

The South African Visiting Lawyer Program works to address the continuing effects of apartheid on South Africa’s legal and economic systems by providing South African lawyers from disadvantaged backgrounds with an intensive training and work experience in commercial law.

Up until now, twenty-five lawyers have participated in the program. Returned fellows are becoming law firm partners and leaders in business and government, and are developing new initiatives to mentor law students and junior associates.
