Emissions Trading or Carbon Tax as Remedies for Global Climate Change: a Debate Presented by the Committees on Environmental Law and Energy

When: Tuesday, November 13 th, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (9 a.m. Coffee and Registration)

Where: New York City Bar Association, 42 West 44th Street, between 5 th & 6 th Avenues

What: Debate-style panel discussion and public forum on what emissions trading or a carbon tax can accomplish

Public concern about climate change has never been greater, and news articles on technological solutions appear almost daily in every major news outlet. Federal legislation has been proceeding so slowly that the industrial sector, which once opposed environmental regulation, is now pressing for a comprehensive national approach.

This expert panel will debate the merits of two strategies for combating global climate change: emissions trading versus the carbon tax. A poorly crafted program that does not reduce carbon emissions would be a tragic missed opportunity.

Moderator:
Edna Sussman , Of Counsel, Hoguet Newman Regal & Kenney LLP,
Chair, NYC Bar Association Energy Committee

Panelists:

  • John Anda , President, Environmental Markets Network, Environmental Defense
  • William A. Pizer , Senior Fellow, Resources for the Future
  • Dan Rosenblum , co-Founder, Carbon Tax Center
  • James Barrett , Executive Director, Redefining Progress

The program is free and open to the general public. To ensure there is sufficient seating, please RSVP to Claire Hernandez at hernandez@clm.com (or 212-238-8671).
