Hastings College of the Law Captures
55 th Annual National Moot Court Competition At
the New York City Bar Association
SAN FRANCISCO-BASED HASTINGS BEATS 27
OTHER SCHOOLS FOR TOP HONORS
New York, N.Y. – TheUniversity
of California’s Hastings College of the
Law won the final round of the 55th
Annual National Moot Court Competition on Thursday,
February 3, 2005, at the Association of the Bar
of the City of New York. Law students on the
winning team included: Leah Bolstad, Mark D’Argenio
and Eliza Hoard.
Drake University Law School ,
Des Moines, Iowa,took second-place
honors. Team members included: Daniel J. Anderson,
Matthew R. Eslick and Anna E. Wholey.
Best Brief honors went to Cleveland-Marshall
College of Law, and Best Runner-Up Brief
went to the University of Montana School
of Law.
Best Speaker went to Leah Bolstad,
Hastings College, and runner-up honors went to Matthew
R. Eslick, Drake University.
Judges for the final round of the competition
included: The Honorable Joan M. Azrack, United
States Magistrate Judge, Eastern District of New
York; the Honorable Barry Cozier, Supreme Court
Justice, Appellate Division, First Department;
the Honorable Julio M. Fuentes, Judge, United States
Court of the Appeals for the Third Circuit; the
Honorable Reena Raggi, Judge, United States Court
of Appeals for the Second Circuit; the Honorable
Sidney H. Stein, Judge, United States District
Court, Southern District; James W. Morris, III,
President, American College of Trial Lawyers; Bettina
B. Plevan, President, Association of the Bar of
the City of New York.
Twenty-eight winning and runner-up teams from
14 regions across the United States competed in
the final rounds of the National Moot Court Competition.
The American College of Trial Lawyers, a national
organization composed of approximately 2,000 of
the leading advocates in the United States, is
a co-sponsor of the competition with the Association’s
Young Lawyers Committee.
