NYC Bar Association Presents

“The Future of Voice Over the Internet:
The Legal and Regulatory Alternatives”

With Special Guest

U.S. SENATOR JOHN SUNUNU

When: Tuesday, May 25, 2004; 6 to 8 p.m.

Where: House of the Association, 42 West 44th Street

The most disruptive telecommunications technology to emerge in decades, Voice over Internet Protocol ("VoIP") poses new opportunities for service providers and significant challenges to regulators. As VoIP becomes increasingly prevalent it raises traditional public policy issues such as Universal Service funding mechanisms and calls into question the current regulatory framework's ability to properly deal with new, packet-based networks and advanced services. What alternative regulatory frameworks are being explored by the FCC and the states? What are their likely impacts on the industry and on consumers?

Moderator:
JOHN FRIEDMAN, Adjunct Professor of Telecommunications Law, Hofstra Law School

Speakers:
JEFFREY CITRON, Chairman/CEO, Vonage, Inc.
JOE WAZ, Vice President, External Affairs & Public Policy, Comcast Corp.
GLENN RICHARDS, Shaw Pittman LLP
DR. ROBERT PEPPER, Chief of Policy Development/Co-Director, Internet Policy Working Group, Federal Communications Commission
ROBERT QUINN, Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, AT&T
HON. JEANNE M. FOX, President, New Jersey Board of Public Utilities
