“The Myth of Moral Justice:
Why Our Legal System Fails To Do What’s Right”

-- Panel Discussion of Law Professor’s New Book --

When: Monday, April 26, 2004; 7 to 9 p.m.

Where: House of the Association, 42 West 44th Street

“The Myth of Moral Justice: Why Our Legal System Fails To Do What's Right,” a new book by novelist, essayist and law professor, Thane Rosenbaum, examines many rituals and practices of the legal system, such as: settlements, plea bargains, evidence rules, attorney-client privileges, zealous advocacy, the absence of apologetic remedies and other forms of restorative relief, the failure to provide for a duty to rescue, the suppressing of emotion and human feeling, the shutting down of stories and the sabotaging of truth -- and finds them lacking when evaluated under basic moral criteria. The book also argues that these moral deficiencies are partly responsible for so much of what passes for lawyer unhappiness in their jobs. Spend an evening challenging the moral critique against the legal system that is being made in this book.

Moderator:
DANIEL KORNSTEIN, Kornstein, Veisz & Wexler

Speakers:
THANE ROSENBAUM, Professor, Fordham Law School
HON. DENNY CHIN, Judge (SDNY)
RICHARD WEISBERG, Professor, Cardozo Law School
