In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the
Supreme Court’s decision in Brown v. Board
of Education, this panel will explore the role
that impact litigation does and should play in
the struggle for civil rights. We will ask whether
impact litigation is the most effective way of
working for social justice reforms in the current
legal and political climate, and how litigation
can be most effective in educating the public and
the courts on civil rights issues. We will also
explore the relationship between impact litigation
and grass roots organizing efforts and the effect
of changing demographics on litigation strategies
and remedies.
