The 20th Anniversary of
the Breakup of Ma Bell:
Perspectives Then and Now On the Divestiture of AT&T
What: The Breakup of AT&T: A Panel
Discussion
When: Monday, March 15, 2004, 6 to 8 p.m.
Where: House of the Association, 42 West
44th Street
The antitrust Consent Decree that resulted in
the split of AT&T into a long distance company
and seven "Baby Bells" in 1984 radically
changed the competitive, regulatory and technological
telecommunications landscapes. After 20 years,
it is worthwhile to look back and ask whether the
policy goals of the divestiture have been achieved
and at what benefit and cost to users and competitors.
FCC Commissioner Kathleen Q. Abernathy and other
distinguished guests will be on hand. The program
is free and open to the public: Monday, March 15,
6 to 8 p.m. at the House of the Association, 42
West 44th Street.
