NYC Bar Association and
the NYS IOLA Fund will hold a
Citywide Civil Legal Services Meeting
To Better Coordinate Legal Assistance to Disadvantaged New Yorkers
The Association of the Bar of the City of New York
and the IOLA Fund of the State of New York will host
a special meeting of city organizations that provide
civil legal services to low-income residents. The
purpose of the meeting is to coordinate the organizations’ scarce
resources to better meet the legal needs of disadvantaged
New Yorkers in all five boroughs.
The meeting will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
on Tuesday, November 9th, at the House of the Association,
42 West 44th Street (between Fifth and Sixth Avenues).
It will mark the first time that the bar association
and the fund have brought together all of the city's
legal services organizations for this purpose.
“The need for free civil legal services in
New York has never been greater,” said Bar
Association President Betsy Plevan. “The city's
legal services providers offer a wide variety of
assistance in all the boroughs, but rarely have the
opportunity to meet as a group. By providing a vehicle
for them to work more closely together, the City
Bar and the IOLA Fund hope to assist them in planning
strategically and marshaling available resources,
including those from the private bar.”
Lorna Blake, executive director of the IOLA Fund,
said that the City Bar and the IOLA Fund hope to
continue these meetings on a regular basis.
The Association of the Bar of the City of New York, founded in 1870, is dedicated
to maintaining the high ethical standards of the profession, promoting
reform of the law, and providing service to the profession and the public.
