Membership Classes
Schedule of Admission Fees and Dues

Membership Classifications (located under the membership class tab when completing the join now button)

Membership dues are based on:

  1. Earliest Date of Admission to any state or country.
  2. Location of Applicant's Office
    (those not maintaining an office are classified according to their legal residence)
  3. Members of the Judiciary, those in public service, recent law graduates and law students pay special rates.

1. Earliest Date of Admission

    Class AA: Admitted 12 years or more
    Class A: Admitted 8 years or more but less than 12 years
    Class B: Admitted 6 years or more but less than 8 years
    Class C: Admitted 3 years or more but less than 6 years
    Class D: Admitted less than 3 years

2. Location of Office or Legal Residence

    Resident Members: Have an office in New York City.

    Suburban Members: Have an office within 50 miles from the Association, but not in New York City.

    Nonresident Members: Have an office more than 50 miles from the Association.

3. Special Rates

    Judicial Members Are classified according to their legal residence:

      Judicial: within 50 miles of the Association
      Nonresident Judicial: more than 50 miles from the Association

    Public Service Members
    Are those members of the profession admitted less than 8 years who are employed by a public law office or a public service law office.

    Recent Law Graduates
    May join prior to admission and must certify that they are qualified to apply for admission to the bar and intend to become a member of the profession within two years of law school graduation.

    Law Students
    May join while enrolled in good standing at an ABA-accredited law school. The annual fee of $25 is due September 1 for membership from September 1 to August 31. In the student's last year of law school, membership is from September 1 until graduation.

    Special Reduced Rates
    Are available for attorneys admitted 8 years or more and whose adjusted gross income is less than $80,000 per year: Members so certifying pay at the Resident B rate ($147.50 semi-annually). Applicants make an initial payment of $442.50 to join ($295.00 admission fee and $147.50 semi-annual dues payment).
