Information for New York City Lawyers and Residents Affected by the September 11th World Trade Center Disaster

The following emergency numbers are available to residents who may have legal questions pertaining to the September 11th tragedy at the World Trade Center :

  • To receive free legal advice or to obtain a legal referral about issues pertaining to insurance benefits, wills and estate planning, and other legal issues, residents should call: (212)-626-7373.
  • Trial Lawyers Care, Inc. is the non profit corporation set up by volunteer trial lawyers across the nation to provide free legal services to the September 11th terrorist attack victims who are eligible and choose to make claims under the federal September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Trial Lawyers Care / 911lawhelp.org.
  • Attorneys who wish to volunteer their services to the victims and families affected by the World Trade Center disaster should contact ProBono Net at the following link: http://www.probono.net/september11.
  • To donate office space to attorneys and law firms displaced in the Sept. 11th tragedy or if you are an attorney who is in need of space, please call (212)-382-6629 or contact the New York State Bar at: 1-877-HELP-321.
  • The Association is offering free crisis and bereavement counseling to all law firms, attorneys, judges, law students and their families in the New York City area. Please contact: Eileen Travis, CSW, Director, The New York City Lawyer Assistance Program at (212)-302-5787. The confidential hotline number is available 24 hours a day. All calls and contacts to the Lawyer Assistance Program are completely confidential.
  • If you need help or would like to volunteer your services you can post the details on the Web site lexisONE. Names of those volunteering may be shared with official disaster relief organizations. lexisONE also is providing a forum for lawyers to share their thoughts about the terror attack, as well as an array of useful links. It's all free, although registration is required for some areas of the site. The site also offers free legal news and information.

  • As part of its Customer Disaster Recovery program, CCH has established a special Customer Service telephone hotline for our information product customers in New York City and the Washington, D.C. area. Customer Service representatives have been assigned to specifically help those who need to replace destroyed products, change shipping addresses, retrieve ids and passwords or who have any other questions about their service or accounts.
